Customer Reviews: A nice and concise description of the Oakland Raiders 1976-1977 Super Bowl seasonJanuary 18, 2010 Charles Ashbacher(Marion, Iowa United States(cashbacher@yahoo.com)) Given their performance over the last several years, it would be hard for the modern football fan to realize that the Oakland Raiders were once a powerhouse team in the NFL. Their head coach in the 1970's was John Madden, they are the only team that he coached and Madden still has the highest career winning percentage of any coach.
The Raiders won the Super Bowl in 1977, completely dominating the Minnesota Vikings and this book is a record of that season and the members of the team. It is written for young people and was published shortly after their Super Bowl victory. I was a fan of the Raiders at the time and read this book when it first came out. The description of the season and their key players is accurate, for no team could match them in the quality of the organization as well as the unusual characteristics of many of their players.
While the history of that season is not deep, it is thorough enough so the modern young football fan can learn a great deal about what was one of the best NFL teams of all time.
