Great Book! October 6, 2008 D. Daisey (Chester Heights, PA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a great book for those who want to know about the beginnings of the Oakland Raiders and the American Football League (AFL). I had been a lifelong Raiders fan, but really learned a lot from this book.
Useful but not as good as it could have been September 5, 2008 Thor (Valhalla) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I'll be honest, while this is a very useful book, there is no authorship here. It is all newspaper articles compiled together from the 1960's. Though that is not obvious at first because there are no no labeling of sources, no footnotes, no bibliography, just a running stream of newspaper clippings disguised as authorship. I don't think James really knew how to put a book together and it is obvious he did not try to do it right. There is no way he wrote any of this unless he writes like a 1960's newspaper man.
Still, a handy reference for The Oakland Raiders of the AFL which substantial details is hard to come by.
Good History February 23, 2008 Robert L. Bach (Alexandria, VA USA) The book provided a great deal of history and detail on the Raiders and their early years. It takes a real fan of the AFC and the team to appreciate it.
The Beginning March 9, 2007 G. Kinst (Tracy, California) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book is extremely informative and well researched. It focuses on details, that untill now have been overlooked in other books on Raider Lore. A must for original Raider fans. Would liked to have seen more vintage photos.
Limey Raider November 29, 2006 P. Davison (Chelsea,London) I loved the book,I have nearly every book written about the Raiders, many now out of print. This was a great read on a different slant.
